Description
Cover produced to commemorate the change of command of the USS Los Angeles ZR-3 from LCDR Herbert Wiley to LCDR Vincent Clark. The cover was flown on the ZR-3 under Clark's command on flight #187, March 31, 1930.Cover details:
3/31/1930 Washington Lakehurst, NJ, cancellation, with 3-line and 4-line typed cachets, serviced by Earl Brandt. The cover is signed by Wiley and Clark and was flown that day on flight #187. It has a receiving stamp at the Lakehurst NAS on April 1st. All of these covers contained an insert on NAS
stationary
, which is also included in the lot. The cover is listed in (2003) Michel as #14 for the ZR-3.
Condition is as shown in the pics. The cover shows minimal toning and is in quite nice shape. It has a sealed flap and has been neatly opened at left, allowing removal of the insert.
Unofficial covers flown on the ZR-3 (#'s 9 - 16 in Michel) are quite rare.
