Color tinted scenes of Tacoma and vicinity including industry, prominent architecture, private residences, landscapes and parks and more.
Includes a short promotional profile of the city. . .
“on March 1, 1915, the federal census estimated Tacoma’s population to be 108,500 . . . Tacoma is the gateway to Rainier National Park . . . and this great snow-capped dome stands guardian over the city of Tacoma, and indeed appears to be literally in Tacoma’s dooryard . . .”
James D.
Lowman
(1856-1947) and Clarence Hanford (1857-1920) were business and civic leaders in early Seattle, each with ties to Seattle's pioneer settlers. In 1882, they joined forces to found Lowman & Hanford Stationery and Printing Company. The firm advertised as booksellers, stationers, printers, and binders but also sold typewriters, sewing machines, pianos, and organs.
Interestingly, many of the images in this rare photo book can be found reproduced as postcards that the company sold . . .
