    Description

    American Airlines’ inaugural flight to Maui, its second Hawaiian stop, was accomplished by separate nonstop flights from Los Angeles and Dallas / Ft. Worth to Kahului. The Los Angeles to Maui DC-10 proceeded to Honolulu and returned nonstop to Dallas / Ft. Worth. The Dallas / Ft. Worth to Maui flight, also made by a McDonnel Douglas DC-10, returned from Maui nonstop to Los Angeles.
    This cover was carried on the December 15, 1984 inaugural American Airlines flight from the O'Hare Airport Mail Facility in Chicago, Illinois to Kahului, Hawaii (it was
    backstamped at Honolulu since the mail bags containing these covers were not off-loaded at Kahului but
    remained on the plane until it reached Honolulu
    )
    and
    is listed in The American Air Mail Catalogue as AA-D172SWf.
