    Description

1941 Australia Tautura INTERNMENT CAMP German Prisoner of War letter to USA
The edge of the fold indicates it was sent by Lothar Jonat, 39214, [?]. 2 Internment Camp, Victoria, Australia.
    Some abstracts:
Dear Günther, I received yesterday your letter of July 23rd with many thanks. First, you got my first letter from here already, dated 8th inst. Thank you very much again for all you kind efforts, to get me over there. It is terrible, how much trouble I am causing you, and yet the result of all this is still doubtful at presetn. It is of no use, to complain about the guilty ones of all that, I know it and won't forget it. I can only regret the whole transmigration[?] business from here could have been finished, before the new regulations were issued ..."
"... and through whom I knew the solictor, with whom I was in touch in London at the time."
"My uncle wrote me, he had some disputes with this nice shop too, some time ago, re my mother. I suspected this always, but didn't know it. There will be a separate letter about stamps, because I have to communicate you some things."
"... to send me through the Red Cross: Mickel Cat. 42, in 2 vol. Europe - Overseas and those of 41 as well. Many people get here parcels from there with books, even biscuits, [????], tobacco, etc."
    "With best regards, yours, Lothar."
The violet rubber stamp markings look like SERVICES OF PRISONER OF WAR, and 3 PASSED BY CENSOR 209, with paper tape "opened by Censor". Also a 29 AUG 1941 on the back fold.
The top front also says "Written in English. U.S.A."
It's addressed to Broadway Stamp Co.,
John G. Ross, 6810 Washington Str. Room 37, Chicago, Ill.
Since the letter notation on the fold says Victoria, it might be the Tatura camp. Fun to research
The cover has some wear / tear / stains
