Man offers envelope with Rs 35,000 as bribe to judge during hearing in Gujarat

A man in Godhra, Gujarat, was arrested for offering a bribe of Rs 35,000 to a Labour Court judge during a hearing. The accused, Bapubhai Solanki, attempted to speed up the proceedings of his ongoing case by handing over the money in a sealed envelope.
The judge immediately reported the matter to the authorities, leading to Solanki’s arrest.
Solanki, a resident of Saradia village in Veerpur tehsil of Mahisagar district, had been pursuing a legal dispute since 2023. He was dismissed from his position at the Bhadar Canal Distribution Sub-Division under the Panam Yojana and was seeking a resolution to his case.
Frustrated by the delays, he decided to take an illegal route to expedite the process.
During the hearing, Solanki approached the judge with the envelope and requested faster proceedings. The judge, maintaining his ethical stance, refused to accept the envelope and asked Solanki to open it, revealing the cash.
The judge immediately filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which registered a case under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and took Solanki into custody.
